IBPS Clerk Syllabus Download

The Institute of Banking Personnel (IBPS) released a notification for Clerical Officer Recruitment Examination in August 2016. The exam will be held in two phases – Prelims and Mains. While the prelims will take place in November and December 2017, the mains will be held in January 2018. To make sure that you grab one of the 19,000 vacant seats announced by IBPS this year, we are giving you a Detailed Syllabus & Study Material. This syllabus for IBPS Clerk along with the study material will give you the list of topics, sub-topics, weight age, marks distribution, tips & tricks, shortcuts, etc. Download this syllabus as PDF and keep striking out topics as you cover them.

IBPS Clerk Prelim Exam Pattern & Specifics

Name of Section No. of
Questions
Max. Marks Duration
English Language 30 30 Composite
Time of 1 Hour
Numerical Ability 35 35
Reasoning Ability 35 35
Total 100 100
  1. Bilingual Test: Every section (except English Language) in the paper will be available in Hindi as well.
  2. Negative marking: Each wrong answer deducts 0.25 o

f the marks assigned to that question from your total. In this case, since each question is worth 1 mark, you lose ¼ marks per wrong answer.

  3. Cut-Offs: Each section has an individual cut-off. Besides this, there is a minimum overall score decided by the IBPS after the results are tallied, that you need to cross to move to the next round. Qualifying the Prelims in this way gets you to the Main Exam. And securing the Mains cut-off qualifies you for the Interview round.
  4. Normalization: The scores will be normalized to equate the difficulty level of the papers in different slots.

How to Use this Detailed Syllabus for IBPS Clerk Prelims

  1. Download the PDF from the link at the top.
  2. Decide which subject you want to study today – Numerical Ability, Reasoning Ability or English.
  3. Pick up the first chapter of the subject (in the order in which it appears).
  4. Go through your notes to get the basics right. Then go through the tips and shortcuts given below.
  5. Once you’re ready, try the quizzes listed.
  6. Analyze your performance and relearn your weak areas.
  7. Get to the first chapter in the next subject.

Complete Syllabus for IBPS Clerk Prelims + Online Study Material

Here is a subject-wise list of the IBPS Clerk Prelims syllabus. The list is classified in order of priority – important chapters first. The Nature of Questions tells you whether it is a scoring chapter or a tricky topic or a time consuming one.

#1. Numerical Ability Syllabus for IBPS Clerk Prelims with Marks Distribution

Remember that these sections are not time-bound. You have only 60 minutes for the whole paper. It is easy to get stuck in numerical ability as you use long calculations to solve the problem. The real trick is to use shortcuts and quick mental calculations. You need to ensure that you complete the quant section in 20 minutes. Since it won’t be possible for you to solve all 35 questions in 30 minutes, you need to ensure you pick the right questions. So the trick is to recognize patterns in questions that tell you how easy or tough it will be.

Here are the different chapters covered under Numerical Ability according to the Syllabus for IBPS Clerk Prelims. Try to prepare these topics in the order mentioned.
