CUET Participating Universities

CUET will be the mandatory admission test for universities established under an Act of Parliament and are under the control and purview of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. In 2009, Parliament passed the Central Universities Act, which paved the way for the creation of 16 Central Universities in addition to the existing ones, to give representation to all states. Why Should You Give CUET | Importance of CUET Exam

Before delving into “Why CUET is Important?”, it is essential to understand what is CUET? The Central Universities Common Entrance Test will be a common entrance test for admissions into 45+ central universities in India, which will be conducted by the National Testing Agency.

CUET Syllabus | Section-wise Syllabus for CUET

Before you start your preparation for CUET , it is important to understand the CUET syllabus. Otherwise, your prep will be directionless, and you might be left wondering where things might have gone wrong! With more than 1.68 lakh seats on offer for undergraduate courses at the 54 Central Universities, CUET is one of the most competitive examinations. For this very reason, while preparing for the exam, you will need to adopt a structured approach. And in doing that, understanding the CUET syllabus is a critical step. CUET will be conducted to admit students into various UG programs. Hence, CUET syllabus would differ from program to program. However, it is expected that there will be two sections in the CUET Section A that will focus on English Language, Numerical Ability, Logical & Analytical Reasoning, along with General Awareness and Current Affairs, among others. Another may be Section B which will focus on the domain-specific subjects. However, NTA CUET may or may not have a section on subject knowledge, i.e., section B. The exam is expected to happen in the first week of July. There will be more clarity on the exam pattern once the official announcement is out. CUET Overview

CUET will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT), commonly referred to as an online exam conducted by National Testing Agency. The fact that more than 40 central universities will participate in CUET makes it a topic of the town. CUET Syllabus is expected to be of NCERT level and include general topics. CUET is likely to be a General Ability Test, with a focus on English Language, Numerical Ability, Logical & Analytical Reasoning, along with General Awareness and Current Affairs. Note: CUET may or may not have a section on subject knowledge. Once the announcement regarding the exam pattern is out , there will be more clarity on this matter.

CUET Syllabus

  • English Language: The questions in this section will test one’s proficiency in the language, based on comprehension passages, fundamentals of grammar, and vocabulary. In the Comprehension section, candidates will be evaluated on their understanding of a passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein, etc. The Grammar section entails correcting grammatically incorrect sentences, filling blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc. Questions on synonyms & antonyms will check one’s command over English vocabulary.
  • Numerical Ability: Questions on Numerical Ability will test the candidate’s knowledge of elementary mathematics. Areas like arithmetic, number system, basics of algebra, and modern maths will be central to these types of questions.
  • Logical & Analytical Reasoning: This section tests the candidate’s ability to identify patterns & logical links, and rectify illogical arguments. It can include a variety of Logical Reasoning questions, such as those on syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc., along with Analytical Reasoning questions on series, directions, clocks & calendars, arrangements, and puzzles to name a few.
  • General Awareness and Current Affairs: The General Awareness section includes static general knowledge, while questions on Current Affairs will gauge a candidate’s knowledge of national & international current affairs.

CUET Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme

With the amount of attention that CUET is drawing, it is essential for all aspirants to know the CUET Exam Pattern so that they can develop an effective exam strategy to ace CUET .

The CUET entrance exam will be held online as a Computer Based Test (CBT). The duration of the exam will be 2 hours or 120 Minutes with 100 Multiple Choice Questions. Each correct attempt will earn the candidate 1 mark while each incorrect attempt will carry a penalty of 0.25 marks.

CUET: UG Exam Pattern

As mentioned in the previous section, the CUET Paper consists of 2 sections. The below-mentioned details of the sections are yet to be confirmed by NTA:

  • Part A may have 25 Questions. The topics tested are General Awareness, English Language, Analytical Skills, and Mathematical Aptitude.

  • Part B may have 75 Questions. This section will test the aspirants in domain knowledge.

For certain courses like the Integrated Programme or LLB or MBA or other such programs, there is no Part B but rather Part A consists of 100 MCQs. This will cover the general aptitude section.

CUET : Marking Scheme

While the CUET Exam Pattern will be confirmed with the official notification, it is expected to remain the same as last year.

Each correct answer in the CUET Exam will reward the aspirant with 1 mark while any incorrect attempt will incur a deduction of 0.25 marks.

CUET Syllabus

The CUET Syllabus and the CUET Exam Pattern has not been confirmed officially but can be speculated based on the previous years. Some of the most important parts of the CUET Syllabus are

  • Part A: This is the section which tests the candidate’s General Aptitude and the syllabus for the same consists of Reading Comprehension/English, Numerical Ability (upto Class 12 Maths), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and General Knowledge

  • Part B: This section is where the candidate is tested on the domain that they are interested in/applied for. It will test them on any 3 of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. For the PG Admissions, the section will test based on the courses that the candidate has opted for.
